Since 1948, International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on every third Thursday in October. It is a day designated to reflect on the credit union movement’s history and to recognize its achievements over the years. The ultimate goal of this special day is to raise awareness to the community about the outstanding work credit unions provide to their members.
This year’s ICU Day will be celebrated on Thursday, October 15, 2015 and the motto is “People helping people.” In appreciation of their loyal membership, HiTel members may stop any of our branch locations: King Street (Kalihi), Fort Street (Downtown), Kaimuki, Kapolei, Kunia, Mililani, Sheraton, or Wheeler to receive for a small gift. We look forward to seeing you!
On Thursday, August 27, HiTel FCU employees volunteered at the annual Children’s Miracle Network – radiothon and telethon – at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children. Our staff eagerly answered phones to receive generous donations from Hawaii’s community.
For the past nine years, KSSK has supported the Children’s Miracle Network, and has helped Kapi’olani Medical Center raised over 1 million dollars! All proceeds collected remain in Hawaii and provides assistance to the entire Pacific region.
The time we spent at the hospital was humbling and heartfelt. We had an opportunity to meet some of the children and their families who received assistance. They were very appreciative and grateful because the Children’s Miracle Network’s monetary support they received was a miracle for their children!
Mahalo, to everyone who pledged and contributed their time to a wonderful cause!
As of July 1st 2015, Oahu has experienced a new transition to join its fellow neighbor islands in their efforts to support the plastic bag ban. HiTel FCU and other local credit unions around the state have partnered with Hawaii Credit Union League to allow consumers to provide assistance to local children and reduce their carbon footprint at the same time.
HiTel FCU is selling colorful, durable, and reusable shopping totes to draw awareness and raise funds for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children through its Kapiolani Children’s Miracle Network. The original theme of the bag is
“Mauka to Makai – Save the ‘Aina for the Children,” which represents its “go green” efforts. Therefore, the bag depicts vivid images on both sides of the bag representing Mauka (Mountains) on one side and Makai (Ocean) on the other with our very own HiTel side panel with our friendly mascots – Yoko the ladybug and Kalea the turtle.
Stop by at any of our branch locations to purchase our limited edition tote for $5 each. Other participating credit unions:
On Saturday, June 27th, HiTel FCU staff volunteered at the ESPN 1420 Sports Festival at the Neil Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Kaiser Permanente sponsored the free event that featured a wide variety of sports, fitness and health related activities. It also included demonstrations, celebrity autograph sessions, contests, giveaways and much more.
HiTel FCU booth gave attendees of all ages an opportunity to play financial football and spin our famous prize wheel! We also sold HiTel’s reusable tote bags, where the proceeds will support Kapiolani’s Children’s Miracle Network Foundation. Hawaiian Tel FCU members and staff supported the Kaneohe Marine Corps annual “Toys for Tots” drive again this year. This program provides an opportunity for all local communities to come together during October through December. They collect gifts such as, stuffed animals, Barbie dolls, Lego board games and many other toys.
On Tuesday, December 23rd, we dropped off the credit union donations to the helpful elves (volunteers) that were collecting toys at the Ward Centers site. Last year, Toys for Tots, collected over 45,000 toys to help make the holidays brighter. We would like to thank everyone who generously donated! Your donations brought good spirit and cheer to Hawaii’s less fortunate Keiki during this holiday season!
