81st Annual Meeting and Dinner

Saturday, March 24, 2018 marked HiTel FCU’s 81st Annual Meeting and Dinner.  This year, we went back to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballrooms to celebrate.

The meeting was business as usual as Board Chairman Primo Pimental and President Norman Okimoto went over the past year’s successes – our continuing growth in membership and assets, and the welcoming of our newest members from HALFCU.  And, of course, Augie T ended the meeting with door prizes.  Over 90 members won a variety of prizes, from gift cards, pieces of art, hotel stays, and the grand prize: a trip for two to Las Vegas!

Augie T gives away door prizes to 92 lucky HiTel FCU members.

Congratulations to our lucky Las Vegas winner!

After the meeting, everyone made their way next door for dinner and was met with a pleasant surprise of pupus already laid out for them to eat.  This year’s menu consisted of Hawaiian food, starting with ahi poke, pipikaula, dinner rolls, and fruit.  The main course consisted of kalua pork, grilled chicken, fresh catch, and chicken long rice.  For those with room to spare, dessert was a decadent pineapple upside down cake.

Guests were greeted with ono Hawaiian food.

The ballroom was filled with members and guests alike, eager to dig into their dinner.

HiTel members enjoyed the Annual Dinner with their friends and families.

Our dinner entertainment was filled with both familiar and new faces.  To start, Sonya Mendez dazzled us with her jazzy hits and matching dance moves.  From Gloria Estefan to Earth, Wind, and Fire, Sonya and her band had the whole room grooving.

A newer face in Hawaii, NomaD came on stage and filled the room with reggae hits and original songs.  He even made a song about HiTel FCU; how cool is that?!  He had the crowd jamming and asking for a “hana hou”, so he performed his hit single “Take It All” to end the night.  Fun fact:  “Take It All” was the number one most requested song on Island 98.5!

Sonya Mendez grooves to the beat of her jazz band.

NomaD engages the audience with his fun and easy-going performance.

All in all, the 81st Annual Meeting and Dinner was a great, fun way to celebrate the successes of 2017.  Mahalo to everyone who came and made that night a memorable one!

ICU Day 2015

2015 ICU Day FB postSince 1948, International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on every third Thursday in October. It is a day designated to reflect on the credit union movement’s history and to recognize its achievements over the years. The ultimate goal of this special day is to raise awareness to the community about the outstanding work credit unions provide to their members.

This year’s ICU Day will be celebrated on Thursday, October 15, 2015 and the motto is “People helping people.” In appreciation of their loyal membership, HiTel members may stop any of our branch locations: King Street (Kalihi), Fort Street (Downtown), Kaimuki, Kapolei, Kunia, Mililani, Sheraton, or Wheeler to receive for a small gift. We look forward to seeing you!

Kapi’olani Children’s Radiothon Recap

HiTel VolunteersOn Thursday, August 27, HiTel FCU employees volunteered at the annual Children’s Miracle Network – radiothon and telethon – at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children.  Our staff eagerly answered phones to receive generous donations from Hawaii’s community.

For the past nine years, KSSK has supported the Children’s Miracle Network, and has helped Kapi’olani Medical Center raised over 1 million dollars!   All proceeds collected remain in Hawaii and provides assistance to the entire Pacific region.

The time we spent at the hospital was humbling and heartfelt.  We had an opportunity to meet some of the children and their families who received assistance.  They were very appreciative and grateful because the Children’s Miracle Network’s monetary support they received was a miracle for their children!

Mahalo, to everyone who pledged and contributed their time to a wonderful cause!

#RedNoseDay at HiTel FCU

On Thursday, May 21st, HiTel FCU employees participated in the Red Nose Day.  It was a worldwide fundraising campaign for people to have fun and raise money for children and young people living in poverty.  Red Nose Day is the main way in which Comic Relief raises money.  Comic Relief is an operating British charity, which was founded in 1985 by the comedy script writer Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry.  The United Kingdom held their first Red Nose Day on February 5, 1988.  However, this was the very first year that the United States participated in the cause.  Fifty percent of funds raised by the U.S. will remain in country and be shared among nonprofit organizations and the remaining funds will be distributed among other nonprofit organizations around the world (Africa, Asia and Latin America).  For more information, please visit www.rednoseday.org and to view pictures of some of our staff follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at @hitelfcu.

Toys for Tots 2014

Toys for Tots Donations

Hawaiian Tel FCU members and staff supported the Kaneohe Marine Corps annual “Toys for Tots” drive again this year. This program provides an opportunity for all local communities to come together during October through December. They collect gifts such as, stuffed animals, Barbie dolls, Lego board games and many other toys.

On Tuesday, December 23rd, we dropped off the credit union donations to the helpful elves (volunteers) that were collecting toys at the Ward Centers site. Last year, Toys for Tots, collected over 45,000 toys to help make the holidays brighter. We would like to thank everyone who generously donated! Your donations brought good spirit and cheer to Hawaii’s less fortunate Keiki during this holiday season!

Mahalo Nui Loa!
