ESPN 1420 Sports Festival Recap

On Saturday, June 27th, HiTel FCU staff volunteered at the ESPN 1420 Sports Festival at the Neil Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.  Kaiser Permanente sponsored the free event that featured a wide variety of sports, fitness and health related activities.  It also included demonstrations, celebrity autograph sessions, contests, giveaways and much more.

HiTel FCU booth gave attendees of all ages an opportunity to play financial football and spin our famous prize wheel!  We also sold HiTel’s reusable tote bags, where the proceeds will support Kapiolani’s Children’s Miracle Network Foundation.    To view more pictures from the event, visit our Facebook fan page “Hawaiian Tel FCU”.

#RedNoseDay at HiTel FCU

On Thursday, May 21st, HiTel FCU employees participated in the Red Nose Day.  It was a worldwide fundraising campaign for people to have fun and raise money for children and young people living in poverty.  Red Nose Day is the main way in which Comic Relief raises money.  Comic Relief is an operating British charity, which was founded in 1985 by the comedy script writer Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry.  The United Kingdom held their first Red Nose Day on February 5, 1988.  However, this was the very first year that the United States participated in the cause.  Fifty percent of funds raised by the U.S. will remain in country and be shared among nonprofit organizations and the remaining funds will be distributed among other nonprofit organizations around the world (Africa, Asia and Latin America).  For more information, please visit www.rednoseday.org and to view pictures of some of our staff follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at @hitelfcu.

We Appreciate Our Employees

Lori, Anna, Stacey and Laurie pose in their costumes at our Employee appreciation party.

On Sunday, October 26th HiTel FCU celebrated their employee appreciation party in style with a Halloween twist.  Staff gathered for a fun-filled morning with games-galore and a breakfast buffet that filled our bellies.  There was an omelet and waffle bar in addition to the main buffet.   Employees participated in individual and team trivial games including a variety of “minute to win it” games like bite me (bobbing for apples using vampire fangs) and the toilet paper mummy wrap.

All attendees were encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween costumes to liven up the mood – as Halloween is just around the corner.  Everyone was able to capture the day with the Oh Snap photo booth kiosk.  This was a great day to unite everyone together from all our branches.

Our employees will be continuing their Halloween spirit on Friday, so stop by any of our branch locations!

Globetrotters Honolulu

The famous Harlem Globetrotters entertained people of all ages at the Neal Blaisdell Center on Saturday, April 26th.  It was a day full of pre-game festivities followed by a delightful exhibition game.  When the doors first opened, HiTel FCU had a table set up for a drawing to win two side line tickets, and the lucky winners were announced just minutes before the game.

Both our athletic mascots took the court as they were announced as “Honorary Globetrotters Team Captains!”  Yoko and Kalea received a certificate of appreciation and had a paparazzi photo shoot with some key members including players, coaches, and their mascot Globbie.

Oahu Annual Dinner and Meeting

Hawaiian Tel FCU’s biggest event of the year — the 76th Annual Meeting and Dinner — was held on Saturday, April 6 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

At the meeting, which was held in the newly renovated Coral Ballroom, the financial condition of the Credit Union was discussed. It was also announced that Calvin Choy, Ken Miyasato and Glen Moribe had been selected to fill the vacancies on the Board of Directors.

Then it was time for the ever-popular door prizes! As in previous years, thousands of dollars in door prizes were given out to enthusiastic attendees. Lucky members won gift cards to great restaurants, BluRay players, a Kindle Fire, a $200 gift card to the Apple Store, and so much more!

With the meeting concluded, everyone adjourned to the dining room to enjoy a sumptuous seven-course Chinese dinner while being entranced by the exotic ukulele stylings of Taimane Gardner. Augie Tulba, our emcee, kept everyone entertained in his usual frenetic style.

Next up was Dita Holifield, who brought an energetic country/western flair to the proceedings. She invited Board Members Primo Pimental and Scotty Bowman to the stage to show off their golden singing voices, and concluded her set with a rousing line dance that got everyone up and moving.

Mystical Sounds’ mobile disco and light show was the perfect way to cap off a celebratory evening of fun and fellowship.

A big MAHALO to all who attended! Hope to see you all next year!
