Hawaii Foodbank

Hawaiian Tel FCU  is actively supporting the Hawaii Foodbank’s “Fight Hunger Spark Change” Campaign from now until Sunday, October 5th.  The Hawaii Foodbank is competing with 128 other food banks across the nation for the Walmart grant of $60,000 – if we are one of the top 50.  Voting is easy:

  1. Visit www.walmart.com/fighthunger from your computer or mobile device
  2. Log on to Facebook
  3. Click on the VOTE button
  4. Share your vote and encourage others to vote for the Hawaii Foodbank, and #HFBfighthunger for an entry to win two general admission tickets to Great Chefs Fight Hunger on March 21, 2015.

If granted the lump sum – the Hawaii Foodbank will share $15,000 with two member agencies: lighthouse Outreach Assembly of God, Waipahu and Surfing the Nations, Wahiawa.  Both agencies will receive a $7,500 credit to restock their shelves.

Lighthouse Outreach Assembly of God is led by Pastor Joe Hunkin Jr. is a community food distribution center and homeless shelter since October 2006.  This shelter houses over 120 individuals who have the ability to receive social services for rental assistance, financial planning and medical aid.

Surfing the Nations/Feeding the Hungry is led by Pastors Tom and Cindy Bauer is a mission outreach servicing the needy in both Wahiawa and Kalihi since 1998.

The winning entry will be selected from all Facebook “Share your Vote” entries marked with the #HFBfighthunger between now and October 5th, 5:59am.  The winner will receive two general admission tickets to Great Chefs Fight Hunger on March 21, 2015.  You may vote and enter this contest once every 24 hours, so vote and enter every day!

Fort Branch is Finally Open!

On Wednesday, July 9th, HiTel FCU opened a new Fort Branch inside of the Downtown Walmart on Fort Street Mall.  Shoppers were eager to see the new two story retail store, and flooded the isles – customers were literally shoulder to shoulder.

A few HiTel FCU employees were set up right on the mall with both 93.9 the Jamz and Island 98.5 giving away a lot of cool things.  The credit union brought their wheel and winners who landed on the one lucky spot received a prize of their choice – a glass cup with a mini Yoko or mini Kalea doll, a shopping cart full of goodies or a HiTel FCU money bag.  There was also a entry box to win a iPad mini and Ni’ihau shell necklaces.

It was only one entry per person, however, anyone who opened a checking account with $100 would get three entries or $500 would get 20 entries.  Winners will be announced all throughout the month of August!

On Thursday July 10th, Pastor John from Hope Chapel blessed our branch to protect and bring good fortune to both the branch and staff.  Fort Branch is our fourth Walmart Branch here on Oahu. Our employees are excited in servicing all your money needs!

Globetrotters Honolulu

The famous Harlem Globetrotters entertained people of all ages at the Neal Blaisdell Center on Saturday, April 26th.  It was a day full of pre-game festivities followed by a delightful exhibition game.  When the doors first opened, HiTel FCU had a table set up for a drawing to win two side line tickets, and the lucky winners were announced just minutes before the game.

Both our athletic mascots took the court as they were announced as “Honorary Globetrotters Team Captains!”  Yoko and Kalea received a certificate of appreciation and had a paparazzi photo shoot with some key members including players, coaches, and their mascot Globbie.

Oahu Annual Meeting and Dinner Recap

On Saturday, April 19, 2014 Hawaiian Tel FCU gathered to celebrate their 77th Annual Meeting and Dinner at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  This year’s theme was “Working with you in mind.”

“To make our way, we must have firm resolve, persistence, tenacity.  We must gear ourselves to work hard all the way.  We can never let up.”

-Ralph Bunche, Nobel Laureate and Diplomat

At the meeting, there were over 300 members in attendance to listen on the successful financial condition of 2013.  There have been many things that the credit union has undergone with the value-driven services of Popmoney and mobile banking, to the grand openings of our two newest Walmart branch locations (Mililani and Kunia), to the various community events and much more.  However, we are not going to stop there – HiTel FCU has a lot more in store for 2014.

In addition to the financials it was announced that Michael Yee and Deborah Lau Okamura had been selected to fill the vacancies on the Board of Directors.

Members were eager to win door prizes, as there were over $3,000 worth of various giveaways.  Lucky attendees were showered with gift cards of various restaurants and stores, hotel stays in Hawaii and California, the grand prize of a trip for two for Vegas and much more!

With the meeting concluded, everyone adjourned to the dining room to enjoy an opulent seven-course Chinese dinner while being entranced by the intoxicating voice of Jason Allen. Augie Tulba, our emcee, kept everyone entertained in his usual escapade style between gigs.  The post dinner entertainment was put on by the beach boy band The Dukes of Surf.  The band had everyone shimming in their seats.

Mystical Sounds’ mobile disco and light show was the perfect way to cap off a celebratory evening of fun and fellowship.
A big MAHALO to all who attended! Hope to see you all next year!  Post your pictures to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and tag us @hitelfcu and #hitelfcu.  To view more photos, visit our Facebook page!
