On Friday, August 22, 2014, HiTel FCU volunteered at the annual Kapiolani Radiothon for Kids. Throughout the two-day event, there were other volunteer groups that helped with the live phone bank. Phones were ringing off the hook gathering generous donations from many callers, while GEICO Hawaii matched each of those donations during the “Power Hour.” 100% of all proceeds will stay in Hawaii and be used to purchase medical equipment, assist with neighbor island travel, and to fund education and research programs. Thank you again to everyone who donated a gift of a miracle to Hawaii’s children and their families.
On June 1st, HiTel FCU officially welcomed Sheraton Hawaii FCU to our credit union ‘ohana! Sheraton Hawaii FCU was formed in 1959 and by merging with us, they will be able to expand services to members. In addition, our new branch will continue their operations at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel & Resort – and is located on the third floor in the forward annex building. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
On Saturday June 28th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, HiTel FCU employees will be volunteering with Helping Hands Hawaii and KITV in promoting School Tools 2014. Our staff will be encouraging shoppers to donate school supplies or monetary gifts for purchasing the necessary materials. School Tools is a statewide program that provides less fortunate students from kindergarten through high school with the tools to help them succeed in the classroom. The program seeks donations such as: backpacks, pencils/pens, crayons, color markers, colored pencils, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, wide ruled and college ruled paper. You may also donate to any of our branch locations. Mahalo!
On Wednesday June 18th HiTel FCU employees celebrated the United Cerebral Palsy Casual Day in casual attire – Jeans, tennis shoes and the UCPA cotton blue t-shirt. There were 67 employees that donated to the cause, and it was definitely a treat for them to dress down for such a special occasion.
UCPA of Hawaii is part of a nation wide network that provides educational programs and supports research in cerebral palsy. The credit union participates in their two biggest events, the other being the Hawaiian Rubber Duckie Race at the McCully Shopping Center.
On Monday, May 12th, HiTel FCU had announced their Bishop Branch relocation on the 11th floor of the Hawaiian Telephone Company Building. Employees who came to visit the newly opened branch received a special treat – pop-a-licious popcorn! There was a popcorn bar set up, and there were toppings galore from Arare Mochi Crunch and Fruikake to Raisinets and Gummy Bears. Everyone had a blast adding goodies to their popcorn. In addition, members who made any transaction at the teller window received a leather key chain in appreciation of their membership. The branch is strictly for Hawaiian Tel employees as the credit union can serve all their money needs at a convenient location. However, in just a few weeks, the Downtown Walmart Branch will soon be opening on Fort Street to service the public.
