Oahu Annual Meeting and Dinner Recap

On Saturday, April 19, 2014 Hawaiian Tel FCU gathered to celebrate their 77th Annual Meeting and Dinner at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  This year’s theme was “Working with you in mind.”

“To make our way, we must have firm resolve, persistence, tenacity.  We must gear ourselves to work hard all the way.  We can never let up.”

-Ralph Bunche, Nobel Laureate and Diplomat

At the meeting, there were over 300 members in attendance to listen on the successful financial condition of 2013.  There have been many things that the credit union has undergone with the value-driven services of Popmoney and mobile banking, to the grand openings of our two newest Walmart branch locations (Mililani and Kunia), to the various community events and much more.  However, we are not going to stop there – HiTel FCU has a lot more in store for 2014.

In addition to the financials it was announced that Michael Yee and Deborah Lau Okamura had been selected to fill the vacancies on the Board of Directors.

Members were eager to win door prizes, as there were over $3,000 worth of various giveaways.  Lucky attendees were showered with gift cards of various restaurants and stores, hotel stays in Hawaii and California, the grand prize of a trip for two for Vegas and much more!

With the meeting concluded, everyone adjourned to the dining room to enjoy an opulent seven-course Chinese dinner while being entranced by the intoxicating voice of Jason Allen. Augie Tulba, our emcee, kept everyone entertained in his usual escapade style between gigs.  The post dinner entertainment was put on by the beach boy band The Dukes of Surf.  The band had everyone shimming in their seats.

Mystical Sounds’ mobile disco and light show was the perfect way to cap off a celebratory evening of fun and fellowship.
A big MAHALO to all who attended! Hope to see you all next year!  Post your pictures to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and tag us @hitelfcu and #hitelfcu.  To view more photos, visit our Facebook page!

May is National Foster Care Month

May is National Foster Care Month.  It is a time to send a heartfelt Mahalo to Hawaii’s Resource Families for the love and dedication shown to our community’s most vulnerable keiki.

At any given time in Hawaii, there are approximately 1,200 children that have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care due to abuse and/or neglect.  The mission of the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services is to maintain permanency by keeping children at home with their families safely, reunification, relative placement and maintaining safe and appropriate connections to their families.

Children who are not able to return home or be placed with ohana need resource families that can provide safe, temporary care while a permanent plan is being made for them.  There continues to be an urgent need for families, especially those able to care for teenagers and large sibling groups.

Oahu Annual Dinner and Meeting

Hawaiian Tel FCU’s biggest event of the year — the 76th Annual Meeting and Dinner — was held on Saturday, April 6 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

At the meeting, which was held in the newly renovated Coral Ballroom, the financial condition of the Credit Union was discussed. It was also announced that Calvin Choy, Ken Miyasato and Glen Moribe had been selected to fill the vacancies on the Board of Directors.

Then it was time for the ever-popular door prizes! As in previous years, thousands of dollars in door prizes were given out to enthusiastic attendees. Lucky members won gift cards to great restaurants, BluRay players, a Kindle Fire, a $200 gift card to the Apple Store, and so much more!

With the meeting concluded, everyone adjourned to the dining room to enjoy a sumptuous seven-course Chinese dinner while being entranced by the exotic ukulele stylings of Taimane Gardner. Augie Tulba, our emcee, kept everyone entertained in his usual frenetic style.

Next up was Dita Holifield, who brought an energetic country/western flair to the proceedings. She invited Board Members Primo Pimental and Scotty Bowman to the stage to show off their golden singing voices, and concluded her set with a rousing line dance that got everyone up and moving.

Mystical Sounds’ mobile disco and light show was the perfect way to cap off a celebratory evening of fun and fellowship.

A big MAHALO to all who attended! Hope to see you all next year!

Kunia Branch Opening

On Monday, March 18th, we opened our second branch within a Walmart store!  This branch is located inside the Kunia Walmart.  If you park on their roof parking lot and take the elevator down, you will find that the elevator opens up right next to our branch!  The first things you will notice are the sleek countertops and bright signage on our television.  Then you will see the friendly familiar faces of our tellers!  They are ready to serve you with any financial needs!

Here are some photos from the soft-opening:
