On Saturday, March 22nd our team of eager employees joined with the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii to kick off an exciting day full of activities and live entertainment at McCully Shopping Center. HiTel FCU set up a booth with their famous spin the wheel passing out a variety of prizes to the community. Other members of the group lined up along Kapiolani and McCully collecting donations by generous donors. The credit union alone had raised over $5,200 prior to the event. We would like to thank everyone who donated both their time and monetary donations to help the children of Hawaii. Summer is the best time of year to be outside soaking up the warm sun and enjoying the breath-taking natural scenery of our islands, which range from mauka (the mountains) to makai (the sea). Many of these hidden jewels are not easy to find, but well worth the effort if you do your research. Hawaii is the most unique place in the entire world, which makes it such a popular tourist destination.
Although we have many visitors that come and go, many of us that live here do not take the time to go out “gallivanting” on our free time. We are engulfed with our daily lives – going to work, attending sports and family events, attached to our mobile devices and electronics or just exhausted from it all. However, one of our very own employees has taken advantage of her well spent weekends to go on an adventurous hike on the Wa’ahila Ridge Trail with her family.
The Wa’ahila Ridge Trail can be found from Waialae Avenue, turn mauka on St. Louis Drive. Follow the drive up, turn right on Peter Street until you reach a cul-de-sac. Then, turn left on Ruth Street, and continue into Wa’ahila Ridge State Recreation Area. “The beautiful scenery along the way and the amazing view from the top” was well worth the 2.4 miles and a few slippery moments.
We encourage you to go on your own little adventure and explore with family and friends. There are many hikes around the island that range from beginner to experience depending on your preference. It is also another great way to get in a workout while spending quality time with friends and family!
Do not forget to pack the necessities: a water bottle, a small snack, a good pair of athletic shoes, sunscreen, mosquito repellant, a cell phone and a camera. There will be many great stories and memories to share because you live on the best place on earth and not everyone can say they went hiking in Hawaii.
Check out our adventure:
On Sunday, June 30, 2013, Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union employee’s joined KITV’s staff and volunteers to collect “School Tools” at Sam’s Club in Pearl Highlands for Hawaii’s keiki’s. Our staff arrived with a van full of donations that our members generously donated to our 7 branches. This year our members and staff came through with bags, boxes, and armload of supplies.
“School Tool” donations were being taken at both town and Pearl City Sam’s Club locations. Together, both locations collected seven pallets of school supplies and over $7,000.00 in monetary donations. The generous donations received from our generous friends and neighbors in Hawaii, will provide 1,755 low income children with school supply kits for this upcoming 2013 – 2014 year!
Our mascots, Yoko and Kalea, also made a special appearance to greet club members and their families! Balloons and candy were given to the donors to thank them for their generosity. Both Yoko and Kalea enjoyed taking pictures with the keiki and receiving warm hugs.
Again, we would like to thank everyone who donated, because “you” have made a difference in the lives of Hawaii’s keiki!
