HiTel Annual Fire Drill

HiTel FCU employees rehearsed a fire drill on the morning of December 18, 2013.  It is an annual training exercise the credit union does to ensure the safety of their employees.  The emergency evacuation procedure allows multiple escape routes for employees.  There was a designated meeting place along KapalamaCanal, which was zoned by departments to make sure everyone was out safely.

Fire drills do not only ensure that staff and members understand what they need to do if there is a fire, but also to test how effectively everyone can evacuate, and look for ways to improve specific aspects of the procedure if it is necessary.

It is just as important for families to test fire alarms and practice escape drills with their children to reduce risks of injury or even death.  So let’s be proactive!

HiTel Commercial Shoot

P1030076

On Tuesday, October 22nd HiTel FCU gathered at a secret location to shoot their new commercial featuring Augie T., Lanai, Yoko and Kalea. This was the very first time that the original spokes people and new mascots of the credit union have met. It will be a very fun and cool commercial. So go out and tell all your friends and family about the new commercial as well as the services of Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union. Remember that we are a full service financial institution and we are open to the community. With locations at Kapolei, Kunia and Mililani Walmarts, as well as in Kalihi, Downtown, Kaimuki and Wheeler – we are there for all your money needs.

The whole gang at the commercial shoot is excited and can’t wait for the new commercial to air, so keep an eye out for it on the Augie T. Show on K5 and Cooking Hawaiian Style on OC16 with Lanai.

Kunia & Mililani Branch Grand Openings

Labor Day Weekend was an especially thrilling one for HiTel FCU, as the Credit Union celebrated the opening of its TWO newest branches in grand style. The grand opening of the Kunia Branch (located in the Kunia Walmart) took place on Saturday, August 31, and the fun and excitement moved to the Mililani Branch (located in the Mililani Walmart) on Sunday, September 1.

Popular radio personalities Maleko from Star 101.9 and Krey-Z Oshiro of Island 98.5 were on hand to oversee the festivities, give away prizes and keep the crowd entertained during the live broadcasts from both events.

Attendees took their turns spinning the lucky slot machine to try to win not one, but TWO brand new cars— a Cadillac ATS and a Cadillac XTS!

The famous HiTel FCU prize wheel was spinning fast and furious, and many attendees won fabulous prizes such as flashlights, keychains, lunch bags and more!

The grand opening events also marked the first appearance of the HiTel Hurricane, a money-grabbing machine which was stocked with cash prizes, as well as chances to win iPads, iPad Mini’s and Kindle Fire HD tablets.

Those who opened new accounts at either event were also entered into the iPad and Kindle drawings, and received special gifts.

HiTel FCU’s cuddly and adorable mascots—Yoko and Kalea—also made an appearance at both events, posing for pictures with the keiki and their families.

Mahalo to Clear Channel Hawaii and Honolulu Cadillac, and also to everyone who took the time to drop by and take part in the
celebrations. The Credit Union’s staff looks forward to serving you at the newest locations!

Congratulations to our lucky iPad/Kindle winners:

Going Mobile

going-mobile

Consumers are going mobile—and for good reasons. A recent report forecasts that 61 million United States consumers will use mobile banking in 2013, up from 47 million in 2012. Mobile banking—which allows consumers to access their funds through their smartphone or mobile device—offers many advantages.

More Control of Your Money
Mobile devices offer you greater access to your money than traditional internet avenues. The internet is only accessible in certain areas, whereas mobile connections are more plentiful. Financial experts agree that mobile banking offers many benefits worth using.

Greater Account Access
Through texting, mobile browsers or downloadable applications (apps), financial institutions are offering their members a wide array of options when it comes to accessing their money. Each has its strength. Texting is an effective way to receive notifications from your bank or credit union, such as alerts when your balance has gone below a certain level.

Mobile browsers and apps offer ease of navigation and flexibility in checking balances, transferring funds and paying bills.

Safe & Secure
Though the perception may be that mobile banking leaves one vulnerable to fraud and other problems, the reality is quite the opposite. Proponents of mobile banking point out that smartphones are less susceptible to malware and viruses, and should your phone be lost, passwords and ID checks help to further protect your privacy as well as your funds.

No Fees
Though there may be charges for such services as text banking—which vary according to the mobile service provider—mobile banking services are, by and large, free for consumers.

The ability to access financial records anytime, anywhere makes mobile banking an appealing service. Many agree that such immediate access helps to prevent fraud and other potential problems, as it allows you quick and easy monitoring of your accounts.
